WELCOME FROM DR. MARK BREWER

One of my favorite images in the Scriptures is of life being a journey. It is more than a spiritual cliché; it is the experience of all humanity. A journey is different than a mere expedition. It is certainly different from a vacation. A journey speaks of a pilgrimage by walking to a new place and becoming a new person in the process. We, like the children of Israel, and like Jesus, are on a journey through life. We travel together through unknown places and challenges. There is both wonder and wrenching heartache along the way. For us as Christians, we know we journey with God.

One of the more fascinating books of the Bible is the Book of Numbers. The Hebrew name for the book is "In the Desert" or "In the Wilderness." It is in the desert places of our lives that God does His best testing, perfecting, blessing, and even healing. As we see the successes and failures of the people of God in the desert, we can also see the times Jesus journeyed through His own trials in life. Our prayer is as we study and reflect on Israel's desert experiences and on the triumphs of Jesus' journey, we can all understand the desert times in our own lives. We travel with each other, and we journey with the Risen Christ Himself. We will reach the Promised Land if we let Him lead us forward. As our Spanish friends say, "via con dios." Walk with God!

Grace and peace,
